I've been working at Sidhe a week now, and I'm on the R&D team. While some of the other members are doing neato stuff like engine development and extending a level editor, I've been assigned to work on an in-house groupware tool.
As I was expecting, I probably won't get to do anything remotely glamorous until they know what my capabilities and weaknesses are. They did take a risk by hiring me after just a single phone interview. So it's fair enough really — I should stop bitching and give it my best.

So hows it going after a month?
I’ve finished up on the bug tracking system — until something breaks, of course — and have recently started doing maintenance on the I/O code of Sidhe’s game engine.
The other teams in the company are hard at work on the Jackass game (www.jackassthegame.com) and Melbourne Cup Challenge.
Naturally things are not as laid-back as they are in business IT. The boss is looking a bit restless due to the length of time I’ve spent getting my head around the wee corner of engine code I’m working on.
That said, Sidhe has a pretty good social scene with friday night guitar hero sessions, parties, an indoor netball team (!?), board game meets and such.
So, how’s it going after two months?
You know, this works pretty well for me. Instead of blogging initiated by my immense reserves of self-discipline and good intentions, someone I know wanders over and prods me to do some damn updates for a change. This question and answer format suits me a lot better.
I’ll put this one the front page, instead of in the comments.
So, how do things look after 12 months?
